About The Position

The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville is seeking outstanding applicants for a tenure track Assistant Professor position in electrical and computer engineering, with emphasis in computer engineering. Candidates with interests and expertise in traditional and emerging areas of computer engineering, including Internet of Things, Next Generation Computing, Wearable Systems, Computer Architecture, and Embedded Systems, as well as strong candidates from related areas of computing will be considered. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses, conduct research, and provide community and university service. This is a full time, benefit-eligible position with a 9-month academic appointment. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The University of Wisconsin System has a nationally top ranked retirement plan and a comprehensive benefits package. Applications will be considered until the position is filled. This position can start either in January 2027 or August 2027.

Requirements

  • A Ph.D. in computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a closely related field (or ABD with expected completion by December 2026).
  • A strong commitment to undergraduate education and using engaging pedagogies.
  • Ability to teach introductory undergraduate courses in electrical engineering.
  • Ability to develop and teach undergraduate courses in computer engineering.
  • Ability to teach distance courses as needed.
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and undergraduate research.
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Strong commitment to undergraduate education and student success.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in the U.S. at time of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Candidates with expertise/experience in high-performance GPU/TPU computing, machine learning, cybersecurity, IoT, or wearable systems are particularly encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and teach undergraduate courses in computer engineering and related subjects.
  • Conduct research and seeking extramural funding.
  • Develop curriculum.
  • Advise students and student organizations.
  • Participate in outreach including visits to industry and recruiting local students.
  • Participate in department, college, and university service committees.
  • Teach some of the courses using alternative delivery methods including distance education.
