About The Position

The Department of Civil Engineering at The University of Akron invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track Assistant Professor of Practice in Construction Engineering Technology (CET), beginning August 2026. This position is designed to strengthen the program’s applied instructional capacity and expand its connection to industry practice in response to continued enrollment growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Engineering Technology or a closely related discipline from a nationally recognized institution.
  • A master’s degree in construction engineering, civil engineering, construction management, or a closely related field is required.
  • Ability to teach courses related to Construction Management (e.g., estimating; contracts and legal/regulatory issues; project management) and Construction Practices and Systems (e.g., plan reading and construction methods; sustainable construction practices; building systems including MEP)
  • Significant professional experience in the construction industry.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure, or the ability to obtain licensure within one year of appointment.
  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CCM, LEED AP, or related credentials).
  • Ten (10) or more years of progressive industry experience in project execution and leadership roles within the construction sector.
  • Well-networked within the Northeast Ohio construction industry.
  • Experience with construction practice competitions and advising student competition teams

Responsibilities

  • Teach multiple undergraduate CET courses, including associated laboratories and applied/practical instruction.
  • Deliver high-quality instruction grounded in professional practice.
  • Contribute to curriculum enhancement aligned with industry standards and ABET outcomes.
  • Engage in departmental, college, and university service activities.
  • Support experiential learning initiatives and industry engagement activities within the Construction & Surveying Hub.
