Requirements

Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or a closely related field, with an emphasis in Structural Engineering, by the date of appointment.
Demonstrated teaching excellence or strong teaching interest in engineering.
Evidence of ongoing scholarly research in the field of structural engineering, or evidence of professional practice.

Nice To Haves

Expertise in areas such as earthquake engineering, seismic design, resilient infrastructure, mass timber, sustainable and low-carbon materials, structural health monitoring, advanced construction technologies, computational modeling, or emerging applications of artificial intelligence and data-driven engineering in the built environment.
A minimum of one year of postbaccalaureate professional practice in structural engineering.
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or Structural Engineer (SE), preferably in California.
Evidence of continued growth and effectiveness in teaching or instructional experience in higher education.
Evidence of continued growth in scholarly research and peer-reviewed publications.
Demonstrated successful record of student advising and leadership potential in guiding and supporting construction student competition teams.

Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in structural engineering and related civil engineering areas, including lower-division, upper-division, laboratory, and graduate-level courses based on departmental needs.
Establish an active scholarly agenda, including pursuing externally funded research and applied projects.
Mentor student research.
Collaborate with industry and academic partners.
Contribute to curriculum development and support hands-on, industry-connected learning experiences.
Participate in department, college, and university service activities.
