Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or a closely related field, with an emphasis in Structural Engineering, by the date of appointment.
  • Demonstrated teaching excellence or strong teaching interest in engineering.
  • Evidence of ongoing scholarly research in the field of structural engineering, or evidence of professional practice.

Nice To Haves

  • Expertise in areas such as earthquake engineering, seismic design, resilient infrastructure, mass timber, sustainable and low-carbon materials, structural health monitoring, advanced construction technologies, computational modeling, or emerging applications of artificial intelligence and data-driven engineering in the built environment.
  • A minimum of one year of postbaccalaureate professional practice in structural engineering.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or Structural Engineer (SE), preferably in California.
  • Evidence of continued growth and effectiveness in teaching or instructional experience in higher education.
  • Evidence of continued growth in scholarly research and peer-reviewed publications.
  • Demonstrated successful record of student advising and leadership potential in guiding and supporting construction student competition teams.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in structural engineering and related civil engineering areas, including lower-division, upper-division, laboratory, and graduate-level courses based on departmental needs.
  • Establish an active scholarly agenda, including pursuing externally funded research and applied projects.
  • Mentor student research.
  • Collaborate with industry and academic partners.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and support hands-on, industry-connected learning experiences.
  • Participate in department, college, and university service activities.
