About The Position

California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Sociology. Cal Poly Pomona is a polytechnic university known for its integrative experiential learning education and learn-by-doing approach. The university is a Hispanic-Serving Institution and an Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution, recognized for promoting social mobility and awarding degrees to minoritized students. The campus is located near Los Angeles and offers a diverse student population with a significant percentage of first-generation, financially aided, and low-income students. The College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences (CLASS) focuses on cultivating intellectual development, ethical reasoning, and aesthetic sensibility. The Department of Sociology offers undergraduate majors in General Sociology and Criminology, and is developing a Sociology degree with a specialty in Social Work into a CSWE accredited BSW program, anticipated to launch in Fall 2027. The department values equity, belonging, and inclusion, and fosters student research, leadership, and public scholarship. The current search is for a tenure-track faculty member to teach social work courses, with a focus on micro-level social work, and potentially antiracist and anti-oppressive perspectives. The position requires excellence in teaching, advising, scholarly achievements, and service. Faculty are expected to teach the equivalent of four courses per semester, with junior faculty receiving a course release for their first two years. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing the BSW degree and the social work program. Sensitivity to diversity issues is essential.

Requirements

Ph.D. in Social Work, Sociology or related social sciences field from an accredited university. Doctoral degree must be completed by the start of the appointment.
Master’s in Social Work (MSW) from a CSWE accredited university.
University teaching experience as instructor of record and/or teaching assistant.
Three references' names and contact information.
Demonstrate sensitivity to issues of diversity, including race, ethnicity, gender, class, age, religion, disability, and sexuality.
Ability to teach courses across the Department’s curriculum.
Evidence of an active scholarly agenda that provides opportunities for student research.
Ability to serve as an academic advisor and research mentor to a diverse undergraduate student body.
Curriculum and/or program development experience.
Disclosure of any final administrative or judicial decision determining that they have committed sexual harassment within the last 7 years (after meeting minimum qualifications and before offer).
Sign a release form authorizing the release of information by current and/or former employers concerning any substantiated allegations of misconduct (for finalists).
Satisfactorily complete a background check.
Comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment (mandated reporter).
