About The Position

Assistant Professor of Sculpture and Ceramics The Digital Media and Visual Arts Department at Frostburg State University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in studio art with expertise in sculpture and ceramics. Candidates should demonstrate a strong interdisciplinary creative practice and the ability to teach a broad range of approaches, including 3D Foundations. We are committed to fostering an inclusive and conceptually rich studio environment and seek a dynamic artist-educator who will contribute significantly to our undergraduate curriculum, mentorship, and creative activity. This position is available to begin in Fall 2026 for the main campus in Frostburg, Maryland. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Requirements

  • MFA in ceramics, sculpture, or closely related field.
  • Experience teaching in higher education.
  • A background in multiple three-dimensional media.
  • Experience with operating all facets of a ceramics studio, including kilns and glaze chemistry.
  • Experience with operating all facets of a sculpture studio, including woodshop, metal fabrication, mold-making and casting materials (latex, paper, plaster).

Nice To Haves

  • Significant experience teaching a range of studio art courses in a higher education setting.
  • Strong record of creative practice in at least one of the teaching fields.
  • Demonstrated competencies in a variety of teaching methodologies and/or pedagogical approaches that reach a broad range of learners.
  • Experience and familiarity with a learning management system (LMS) such as Brightspace, Blackboard, or Canvas.

Responsibilities

  • The successful candidate will teach introductory and advanced courses in ceramics and sculpture, with the possibility of additional assignments such as Senior Portfolio, Art Appreciation, and 3-D Design, and will have the potential to develop courses in their area of expertise.
  • Advising and mentoring students is performed by all faculty.
  • The successful candidate will oversee multiple studio areas and a range of equipment, including a woodshop and ceramics studio and kilns.
  • Duties will also include professional development activities, and service to the Department, College, University, and community.
