About The Position

West Texas A&M University’s Department of Education invites applications for an assistant or associate professor of counseling position. This position is an exciting opportunity, designed to expand and enhance the capacity for rural behavioral health services. This initiative is in collaboration with professionals across a variety of fields and programs to ensure comprehensive service provision, including counseling, psychology, social work, nursing, etc. This unique position requires an individual that exhibits a passion for supervision, consultation, and training who will not only work collaboratively with the faculty of the Counseling program but will be eager to cooperate with other departments and external agencies across the Texas Panhandle Community to develop the Behavioral Health Workforce Initiative (BHWI) at West Texas A&M University. This position is an 11-month tenure-track position. Teaching responsibilities will be in the graduate online Counseling program. The successful candidate will maintain an active research and publication agenda, participate in program, departmental, college, and university committees, engage with professional counseling organizations, and willingly complete other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Earned doctorate in Counselor Education
  • Texas state licensure as Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or license eligible
  • Evidenced scholarly activity or scholarly agenda in the field of Counseling
  • Experience supervising counselors-in-training throughout practicum and internship
  • Evidence of experience developing, implementing, and evaluating clinical procedures for counselors-in-training

Nice To Haves

  • A doctoral degree in Counseling from a CACREP accredited program
  • Specialized training in Counseling curriculum and online instruction development
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and service
  • Minimum of two years of experience teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in educator preparation courses in Counseling in a higher education setting (i.e., university or community college)
  • Evidence of consultation and training in the mental health services (school and community)
  • Strong working knowledge and understanding of established professional code of ethics and best practices in Counseling Education

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate clinical mental health services in collaboration with the mental/behavioral health initiative
  • Develop and maintain community partnerships
  • Collaborate with partner schools and community agencies
  • Collaborate with university personnel responsible for BHWI program data collection and management
  • Supervise and teach graduate practicum and internship supervision courses, which may include summer terms
  • Work cooperatively with public/private schools and mental health agencies
  • Recruit, admit, and advise master’s level counseling students
  • Maintain an active research and publication agenda
  • Actively participate in program planning, review of comprehensive examinations, and university assessment requirements
  • Engage in developing and implementing service opportunities consistent with the mission and vision of the program, department, and college
  • Collaborate and meet regularly with counseling and college faculty
