About The Position

Warren Wilson College is seeking applicants for a faculty position in Developmental Psychology. This is an Assistant Professor role within an extended contract system, requiring a 24-credit teaching load (typically 3-3 classes) starting in August 2027. The extended contract system involves annual reviews for the first three years, followed by extended-term contracts, academic rank review, and promotion. The college seeks candidates with a background in developmental psychology who are dedicated to teaching, mentoring, and student-engaged research within an undergraduate liberal arts setting that emphasizes experiential learning. The position involves teaching introductory psychology, developmental psychology courses (e.g., Infant & Child Development, Adolescence & Emerging Adulthood), research methods, and upper-level specialty courses. Faculty are also responsible for supervising senior capstone projects, which include research and practicum placements. Opportunities exist for collaboration on study-away courses, first-year seminars, and community-based projects.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Psychology or related field. ABD will be considered.
  • Experience teaching psychology at the college level, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience with advancing a learning environment that is conducive to all students.
  • Experience incorporating inclusive teaching modalities, course content, and subject matter experts, and working with diverse student populations.

Nice To Haves

  • Two or more years of demonstrated teaching excellence at the undergraduate level.
  • Evidence of a pedagogical approach that prioritizes experiential and applied learning.
  • Ability to contribute to and support a collegewide initiative toward an interdisciplinary Health Science major.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 24 credit hours (i.e., 3-3 course load) of undergraduate instruction per academic year.
  • Provide academic and career advising to students.
  • Contribute to the college’s General Education Program, as determined to be appropriate in consultation with the Department Chair.
  • Provide service to the Department and the College.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and scholarly activity.
  • Maintain and develop partnerships (e.g., schools, non-profits) to support community engaged learning in the developmental course sequence, internships, and capstone research.
