About The Position

The Assistant Professor of Practice of Culinary Education within the College of Health and Human Sciences (CHHS) is a 12-month non-tenure-track faculty position. The anticipated start date of employment is August 1, 2026. The College of Health and Human Sciences offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate degrees in health sciences, nutrition, sport management, hospitality, and physical education. The University of Memphis is a Research 1 Institution with a diverse student population.

Requirements

  • An earned baccalaureate degree and formal culinary education and/or 5+ years of professional culinary experience is required.
  • Three or more years of baccalaureate level teaching experience (experiential and didactic) is required.
  • Certified Culinary Medicine Professional (CCMP) certification is required.
  • ServSafe Food Manager certification is required.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Program operations experience is preferred.
  • Exceptional skills in the following areas are desired: written and verbal communication, cross-functional collaboration, event planning, budget tracking, adaptability, resourcefulness, attention to detail, organization, time management, follow through, rapid response, and sound judgment.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a wide variety of undergraduate courses in culinary/nutrition within the CHHS and Campus Recreation (3-4 course sections per fall and spring semesters; 1-2 course sections in the summer).
  • Identify and develop opportunities for partnership programs in culinary medicine and general nutrition course offerings for traditional students and members of the community.
  • Teach non-credit bearing courses in nutrition and culinary medicine.
  • Collaborate with faculty within the CHSS and staff within Campus Recreation to provide nutrition education and innovative programming.
  • Provide service to the college, university, and profession.
