About The Position

The Department of Music, Theatre and Dance at Prairie View A&M University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Piano position beginning Fall 2026. We seek an accomplished pianist, educator, and collaborative artist who is committed to excellence in teaching, performance, student mentorship, and professional engagement. Responsibilities include applied piano instruction, collaborative performance, and contributions to the artistic and academic mission of the department. As an All-Steinway School, Prairie View A&M University is committed to providing exceptional piano instruction and fostering artistic excellence through performance, scholarship, and community engagement. The salary is determined in accordance with the University’s compensation structure and will be commensurate with the candidates’ education and experience, within the assigned salary range for this position.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in Piano Performance, Piano Pedagogy, Collaborative Piano, or closely related field by the time of appointment.
  • Three to Four years of successful teaching experience in higher education.
  • Demonstrated success in teaching piano and/or musicianship courses.
  • Evidence of strong performance and collaborative piano skills.
  • Commitment to undergraduate teaching and student mentorship.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with the student population.

Nice To Haves

  • Five years of successful teaching experience in higher education.
  • Active national or international performance profile.
  • Experience accompanying vocalists and instrumentalists in recital settings.
  • Experience organizing festivals, outreach programs, or recruitment initiatives.
  • Proficiency or familiarity with gospel, jazz, commercial music, or other contemporary styles.

Responsibilities

  • Teach applied piano lessons and functional piano courses.
  • Teach aural skills and academic music courses according to departmental needs.
  • Serve as collaborative pianist for student and faculty performances.
  • Support recruitment, outreach, and artistic initiatives, including PVAMU Piano Fest.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
