About The Position

Trinity University’s Department of Sociology and Anthropology seeks applications for a tenure-track position in Environmental Anthropology, broadly construed, beginning in August 2027. The geographic area of expertise is open, although preference will be given to those working in Africa, the Middle East, or Latin America. The candidate must be prepared to teach Humans and the Environment, introductory courses, and develop upper-division courses of their choice in their area of specialization. Trinity University is a secular, independent, private institution, founded in 1869, offering high-quality science, liberal arts, and pre-professional programs to approximately 2,500 undergraduate students. The Department of Sociology and Anthropology is part of the School of Social Science & Civic Engagement and offers majors in Sociology and Anthropology and minors in Museum Studies and Archaeology. Requirements

  • PhD in Anthropology by July 2027
  • Some teaching experience at the undergraduate level
  • Evidence of teaching excellence at the undergraduate level
  • Demonstrated commitment to Trinity University’s liberal arts mission
  • Relevant Research and/or Peer-reviewed Publication, demonstrating consistent research pipeline, robust methods and substantive engagement with theory
  • Relevant graduate coursework in Cultural Anthropology with a specialization in Environmental Anthropology
  • A demonstrated commitment to Trinity’s value of intentional inclusion
  • A willingness to support the goals of the Pathways general education curriculum

Nice To Haves

  • Geographic area of expertise in Africa, the Middle East, or Latin America
  • Graduate coursework in cultural anthropology, with a research specialization in environmental anthropology
  • Sole-taught courses

Responsibilities

  • Teaching undergraduate level classes, both required foundational courses and courses in the special interests of the candidate.
  • Participation in the First Year Experience program is highly encouraged.
  • Consistent and productive scholarly activity, including original research, attendance at conferences or other professional events, and publication of research.
  • Advising majors, service to the department, university, profession, and community.
