The Department of Physics at Norfolk State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in quantum science, emphasizing superconducting quantum circuits and devices. The department offers a B.S. in Physics and an M.S. in Materials Science. The successful candidate will have expertise in the design, fabrication, modeling, and characterization of superconducting circuits for quantum sensing and quantum information processing. Areas of interest include circuit quantum electrodynamics, Josephson-junction-based qubits, superconducting microwave resonators, quantum measurement and control, and hybrid systems coupling superconducting circuits to spin, photonic, or phononic excitations. The successful candidate will establish an externally funded research program, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, mentor students, and collaborate with NSU faculty in quantum science and engineering. They will also develop national and international collaborations and contribute to the development of a new graduate program in quantum science and engineering. Applicants should submit a research statement describing their proposed research at NSU, the experimental or theoretical approaches they would use, and anticipated contributions to superconducting quantum circuits and their applications. Norfolk State University is a comprehensive urban public, doctoral-granting institution committed to teaching, research, and service. It is a historically Black university with nationally recognized STEM programs and enrolls approximately 6,000 students across undergraduate and graduate programs.
