About The Position

The University of Florida’s Department of Philosophy in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences invites applications for a nine-month, full-time, tenure-accruing Assistant Professor position beginning August 16, 2027. The successful candidate will pursue an active research agenda in the philosophy of AI broadly construed, including work intersecting with ethics, cognitive science, philosophy of mind, and related areas. Tenure-line faculty are typically assigned four courses per academic year at undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate is expected to contribute significantly to graduate education and mentor graduate students, as well as provide service to the department, university, and profession. The department has strengths in philosophy of artificial intelligence and related fields and collaborates with other university units, including the Hamilton School for Classical and Civic Education.

Requirements

Ph.D. in Philosophy, or completion of the Ph.D. by the date of hire.
An active research agenda in the philosophy and ethics of artificial intelligence.
Evidence of effective teaching.

Nice To Haves

Teaching expertise in philosophy of cognitive science or philosophy of law is an advantage.
