About The Position

St. Edward's University, a nationally ranked, independent Catholic university and Hispanic Serving Institute (HSI), invites applications for a 9-month, tenured faculty position as an Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Nursing in the Department of Nursing, beginning January, May, or August 2027. The successful candidate will instruct nursing courses on campus and participate in various laboratory/simulation/classroom experiences as coordinated by the lead course faculty. As appropriate to individual contracts, clinical faculty will be expected to be involved in service to the university, the community, and the profession.

Requirements

  • Five (5) years of practice experience.
  • Hold a current, unencumbered RN license to practice nursing in the state of Texas.
  • Hold a Masters of Nursing (MSN) degree to teach BSN degree programs.
  • Three (3) years of academic preparation and teaching experience in nursing education.
  • Teaching experience in online and in-person formats.
  • Experience in electronic health records and online meeting systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred experience in adult health and leadership.
  • Preferred experience or interest in developing simulation learning and online course delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct nursing courses on campus and participate in various laboratory/simulation/classroom experiences as coordinated by the lead course faculty.
  • Be involved in service to the university, the community, and the profession.
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses.
  • Support a diverse student body.
  • Interpret the mission and aim of the School of Health Sciences Department of Nursing in relation to the planning and delivery of nursing care, within the framework of the agency.
  • Confer with professional staff involved in the planning and implementation of nursing care in the agency and health promotion activities in the community.
  • Interpret the program curriculum to the nursing staff and other appropriate staff within the agency.
  • Provide the students and the agency with documents determined by the Director of Nursing to be necessary, such as student schedules and student assignments.
  • Maintain current clinical competency and knowledge.
  • Attend mandatory orientation at a designated location on St. Edward's University campus.
  • Complete all training as directed by the Director of Nursing.
  • Schedule an end-of-rotation evaluation conference with the agency (nursing manager) at the conclusion of the academic year to review any student, staff, and/or agency issues.
  • Submit a written summary of the evaluation conference to the Director of Nursing (for filing according to BSN program accreditation requirements).
  • Report to the Director of Nursing.
  • Orient students to the clinical setting.
  • Arrange and/or conduct the student orientation to the agency, as needed.
  • Plan student assignments critically in relation to the student's level and the course objectives.
  • Plan assignments in relation to the availability of learning opportunities.
  • Identify additional learning resources.
  • Reinforce concepts taught in the BSN curriculum.
  • Help the student to acquire appropriate knowledge, skills, and attitudes required of professional nurses.
  • Support the students in using methods of problem solving and higher-level thinking in nursing and personal relationships, through individual and clinical group conferences.
  • Encourage students to assume increasing responsibility for personal development.
  • Create opportunities for students to independently provide appropriate nursing care with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Supervise patient care, physical assessments, and the administration of medication.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Nursing regarding important student issues, such as unsafe practice or other critical incidents.
  • Grade all course assignments (quizzes, case studies, care plans, etc.) as indicated in the course syllabus.
  • Evaluate the progress of students.
  • Provide ongoing feedback to students regarding their strengths and areas in need of improvement.
  • Keep notes concerning performance and share these with the student.
  • Guide and encourage students' self-evaluation.
  • Develop a learning prescription (see Learning Prescription Form) to improve students' skills with Director of Nursing, if indicated.
  • Issue clinical warnings as necessary, after discussion with the clinical course coordinator.
  • Maintain grade records for all assigned students.
  • Maintain student information in a confidential manner.
  • Confer with the Director of Nursing, as needed, regarding students' performance or school processes.
  • Perform student evaluations in a timely manner.
  • Perform mid-term and final evaluation for each student according to the Department of Nursing and St. Edward's University policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
