About The Position

The Department of Mathematics at ACU invites applications for an assistant professor position in mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, or data science beginning in Fall 2026. Candidates with industry experience in these areas are also encouraged to apply. The successful candidate is expected to be an effective teacher and mentor to mathematics students in an undergraduate environment and to have a desire to pursue appropriate scholarship. The teaching load is typically 12 hours per semester. ACU is affiliated with the fellowship of the Church of Christ. This position requires the employee to be a professing Christian and to be willing to support the Christian mission of ACU.

Requirements

  • An earned doctorate (PhD) in mathematics, statistics, data science, or actuarial science prior to 08/01/2026.
  • Potential for excellence in teaching and mentoring undergraduate students.
  • Ability to mentor student research projects and participate in curriculum development.
  • Willingness to build or continue a record of scholarship.
  • Willingness to professionally engage in departmental and university initiatives.
  • Must be a professing Christian and willing to support the Christian mission of ACU.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong preference for candidates pursuing or holding professional credentials or professional certifications in data science or actuarial science.
  • Evidence of a strong, independent research program demonstrated through peer-review publications or external research funding.
  • Experience in curriculum development for data science and statistics programs.
  • Industry experience in data science or actuarial science or closely related areas.
  • Expertise in AI, machine learning, multivariable modeling, or applied numerical methods.
  • Proficiency in R, Python, SAS, SQL, or other data science software.
