About The Position

The Department of Mathematics in the School of Computer Science and Mathematics at Marist University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Statistics or Statistics Education at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank to begin in the Fall of 2027. The School of Computer Science and Mathematics prepares students for a technology-driven future that is rooted in a liberal arts foundation. The Department of Mathematics exists to support the study and advancement of mathematics. Combining the traditional focus of a liberal arts mathematics education with modern technology, we aim to create an environment that fosters quantitative reasoning and deductive thinking, while promoting mathematical understanding. Marist offers a traditional B.A. in Mathematics, a B.A. in Mathematics Education, and a B.S. in Applied Mathematics with concentrations in actuarial science, biology, chemistry, and computer science. In addition, we offer an interdisciplinary B.S. in Data Science and Analytics with the Department of Computing Technology. Requirements

Doctoral degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Statistics, Statistics Education, or a closely related field.
ABDs in an appropriate field who will complete their dissertation within one year of hire will be considered.
Evidence of excellence in teaching and scholarly work.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Nice To Haves

Significant disciplinary expertise in statistics and pedagogical knowledge of best practices in statistics education.
Interdisciplinary research programs in applied areas of Machine Learning and Data Sciences.
Robust track record of publications and/or the potential to develop a strong research agenda.

Responsibilities

Ability to teach in multiple areas of mathematics with a significant disciplinary expertise in statistics and the teaching of statistics.
Managing the introductory statistics program (over 1000 students take introductory statistics in more than 35 sections every year).
Engagement in university and professional services such as advising/mentoring students, and serving on department, school, or university committees.
