About The Position

The Department of Mathematics at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a full-time, tenured Full Professor to become the inaugural D’Angelo Chair in Mathematics, an endowed chair. All areas of mathematics are of interest. The successful candidate will conduct independent, high-quality research; teach effectively at the graduate and undergraduate levels; and contribute to the department, university, and profession through service. The candidate is expected to enhance the department’s research profile and visibility and contribute to the mission of the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences through research, teaching, mentoring, and service. The position is based full-time on the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus under the university’s Workplace Flexibility policy. The anticipated start date is August 16, 2028. The budgeted salary range is $180,000–$250,000 for a 9-month service basis, paid over 12 months. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, considering internal equity and external market pay. The position is eligible for work-authorization sponsorship and benefits.

Requirements

A Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Mathematics or a related field; a doctoral degree is required by the start date.
An established record of exceptional mathematics research and leadership in the field.
Distinction in research, teaching, and service commensurate with the rank of Full Professor.
Ability to teach effectively to a student population with a wide range of backgrounds and experiences.
