About The Position

Union College invites applications for the tenure-track Donald C. Brate '45-Stanley G. Peschel '52 Assistant Professorship in Statistics at the rank of Assistant Professor. The position begins September 1, 2027. Candidates should demonstrate excellence in both teaching and research, with institutional expectations and support balanced between these two areas. The role is open to candidates who will have a Ph.D. in statistics by September 2027, possess strong undergraduate statistics teaching credentials, and have a record of scholarly achievement indicating a continuing commitment to scholarship in any sub-fields within statistics. This position is crucial for the growth of our Statistics, Data Analytics, and Financial & Actuarial Mathematics programs, which currently have established minors with a long-term goal of developing them into majors. While a strong theoretical background in statistics is required, candidates with practical experience in applying statistics to real-world problems and teaching practical statistical thinking and data analysis within specific contexts are particularly desired. The teaching load is two courses per trimester with one course release during the first year. The successful hire will be responsible for developing courses in their area of expertise that may also contribute to other Union programs, particularly the interdisciplinary programs in Data Analytics and Financial & Actuarial Mathematics.
