About The Position

Participate as a full-time faculty member in the Departmental and Medical School activities as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine. The incumbent has a major commitment to the provision, advancement and promotion of excellence in clinical care and teaching/educational activities, and contributes significantly to scholarly activities. A commitment to investigation and publication of research in addition to advancing clinical programs in procedural areas (Interventional Electrophysiology).

Requirements

  • Graduate of accredited medical school program.
  • Diplomate of the American Board of Cardiology or eligibility for ABIM.
  • Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Illinois or Licensed by the State of Illinois prior to employment.

Responsibilities

  • Reinforce procedural program (Interventional Electrophysiology) for SIU Health Care and SIU School of Medicine.
  • Actively participate with the leadership team to develop and implement policies and strategies that support our strategic direction.
  • Assume divisional administrative responsibility as directed by the Division Chief.
  • Teach, mentor, and supervise individual students and residents during in-patient and out-patient consultations and follow-up visits and in the procedural areas.
  • Prepare lectures, seminars and rounds for students taking the Cardiology elective.
  • Prepare and deliver lectures, seminars, conferences and rounds for resident house staff, medical students and other learners in the Department of Medicine and other departments.
  • Provide periodic seminars/educational sessions for the division.
  • Prepare conferences for the Department of Medicine.
  • Provide lectures and conferences at hospitals in communities of Central and Southern Illinois.
  • Complete inpatient and outpatient consultations requested by full-time SIU clinical faculty, house staff and community physicians.
  • Perform duties in relevant procedural areas.
  • Develop and maintain professional practice in accordance with departmental policy.
  • Based on MGMA benchmarks and the calculated clinical FTE, achieve target of x RVUs per year.
  • Participate in University, SIU HC and hospital committees as requested.
