About The Position

This position is for a full-time faculty member in the Department of Medicine at SIU School of Medicine, focusing on clinical care and teaching. The role involves participating in departmental and medical school activities as a Clinician Teacher, with a major commitment to clinical care, teaching/educational activities, and scholarly activities. The position is strictly on-site.

Requirements

  • Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations.
  • Graduate of accredited medical school program.
  • Graduate of formal specialty training program in Gastroenterology.
  • Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine or eligibility for ABIM.
  • Diplomate of the American Board of Gastroenterology Medicine or eligibility for Gastroenterology Board.
  • Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Illinois or eligible for such licensure.

  • Experience working in an academic environment, both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Responsibilities

  • Assume divisional and departmental administrative responsibility as directed by the Division Chief.
  • Teach, mentor, and supervise individual students and residents during in-patient and out-patient consultations and follow-up visits.
  • Prepare lectures, seminars and rounds for students and residents taking the Gastroenterology elective.
  • Prepare and deliver lectures, seminars, conferences and rounds for resident house staff, medical students and other learners in the Department of Medicine and other departments.
  • Provide periodic seminars/educational sessions for the division.
  • Prepare conferences for the Department of Medicine.
  • Provide lectures and conferences at hospitals in communities of Central and Southern Illinois.
  • Complete inpatient and outpatient consultations requested by full-time SIU clinical faculty, house staff and community physicians.
  • Develop and maintain professional practice in accordance with departmental policy.
  • Achieve a minimum target of 6,325 RVUs per year.
  • Complete a one to two day per week rotation supporting Outreach with Decatur Memorial Hospital, Passavant Memorial Hospital or any other regional partner.
  • Participate in University, SIU HC and hospital committees as requested.

Benefits

  • The budgeted annual salary range is $330,000 to $363,000, representing the academic base salary only, which is funded through the University.
  • Additional clinical compensation will be provided separately through a member practice agreement.
