About The Position

This position is for a full-time faculty member in the Department of Medicine at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. The role focuses on clinical care and teaching, specifically managing hospitalized patients. The incumbent will be involved in clinical care, teaching/educational activities, and scholarly activities. The position emphasizes the provision, advancement, and promotion of excellence in clinical care and teaching.

Requirements

  • Graduate of accredited medical school program.
  • Graduate of formal specialty training program in Internal Medicine.
  • Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine or eligibility for ABIM.
  • Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Illinois or Licensed by the State of Illinois prior to employment.

Responsibilities

  • Assume divisional and departmental administrative responsibility as directed by the Division Chief.
  • Participate in clinical teaching, mentoring, and supervising students and residents during in-patient and out-patient consultations and follow-up visits.
  • Prepare lectures, seminars, and rounds for students on the Hospitalist Service.
  • Engage in formal, scheduled teaching outside the context of clinical care delivery.
  • Prepare and deliver lectures, seminars, conferences, and rounds for resident house staff, medical students, and other learners.
  • Provide periodic seminars/educational sessions for the division.
  • Prepare conferences for the Department of Medicine.
  • Provide lectures and conferences at hospitals in communities of Central and Southern Illinois.
  • Complete inpatient and outpatient consultations requested by full-time SIU clinical faculty, house staff, and community physicians.
  • Develop and maintain professional practice in accordance with departmental policy.
  • Achieve a minimum target of 3,393 RVUs per year (1.0 CFTE = 4,346 RVUs).
  • Staff 166.25 total shifts (days weighted at 1.0, nights at 1.2).
  • Participate in University, SIU HC, and hospital committees as requested.
