Assistant Professor of Clinical - Anesthesiology, CVT
About The Position
The Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative Medicine, and Pain Management at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine (UMMSOM) is seeking exceptional candidates to join their expanding faculty. The CT division provides perioperative cardiothoracic and vascular care at University of Miami Hospital and Jackson Memorial Hospital. This includes over 1000 cardiac surgical cases annually, encompassing minimally invasive valve repair/replacement, CABG, adult congenital procedures, aortic reconstruction, and major vascular cases. The Miami Transplant Institute (MTI) performs over 100 heart and lung transplants, multi-organ transplants, ventricular assist devices, and ECMO. The division also manages over 250 thoracic surgical cases, including lung resections (open, thoracoscopic, and robotic), mediastinal surgery, esophageal and tracheal reconstruction, and interventional pulmonology. Additionally, the division provides comprehensive care for growing percutaneous/structural heart programs, including TAVRs, mitral clips, and Watchman procedures.
Requirements
- Completion of a US-approved residency in Anesthesiology.
- Completion of one year of Cardiothoracic fellowship training.
- TEE board certification or Testamur status.
- Board Eligibility or Certification in Anesthesiology.

- Limited skills in regional pain management.
- Ability to anesthetize older children.
Responsibilities
- Performing a wide variety of cardiothoracic cases, including general cases such as orthopedics, GYN, ENT, abdominal cases, and kidney transplants.
- Supervising residents, fellows, CRNAs, and SRNAs.
- Performing cases independently if required.
- Participating in the academic activities of the department, including teaching and mentoring trainees.
- Participating in departmental conferences and faculty meetings.
- Participating in call from home, averaging one per weekday and one weekend call per month.
