About The Position

California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona) is seeking applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering at the Assistant Professor level. This position begins in the Fall semester of 2027. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a variety of chemical engineering courses and laboratories, including material and energy balances, thermodynamics, transport phenomena, unit operations, process design, and emerging technologies. Responsibilities also include participating in all aspects of the department’s mission, such as teaching and advising undergraduate and graduate students, developing curriculum and laboratories, establishing a well-funded research program, and contributing to service at the department, college, university, and professional levels. Applicants with expertise in energy systems and sustainability are particularly encouraged to apply.

Requirements

Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or closely related program from an accredited university by the date of appointment.
Demonstrable skills/potential for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, and in developing and implementing laboratory-based experiments.
Demonstrable experience/interest in establishing and maintaining sponsored research in a field related to Chemical Engineering.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusive excellence in the academic community through research, creative activities, teaching and/or service and work as well as the profession.

Nice To Haves

An undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
Demonstrable and practical skills in teaching a broad range of courses and laboratories in Chemical Engineering.
Demonstrable skills in the development of sustainable engineering fields, such as energy and the environment.
Ability to support in major department, college, and university level initiatives, e.g., strategic planning, outcomes assessment, laboratory revitalization, curriculum design, etc.
Record of publication in scholarly journals.
Ability to work with others in a multi-disciplinary environment.
