About The Position

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering in the Texas A&M University College of Engineering seeks a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Quantum Materials. The successful candidate will establish and lead an internationally recognized, externally funded research program, with demonstrated emphasis on experimental synthesis or growth and characterization of emergent quantum materials. This position is part of a university-wide cluster hire in Quantum Sciences and Technology involving five faculty positions across engineering and science. The initiative aims to strengthen an interdisciplinary community spanning physics, chemistry, materials science, and electrical engineering and to advance fundamental understanding and technological applications of quantum materials through collaborative research in synthesis, characterization, theory, computation, and device development. Areas of particular interest include experimental synthesis and growth of quantum materials and related systems; emergent properties and phenomena; low-dimensional and correlated quantum materials, including applications in twistronics, spintronics, and devices; defects and solid-state qubits for quantum sensing and other emerging technologies; and topological phases and quantum geometry, including applications in quantum information science and devices. The successful applicant will teach, advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, develop an independent externally funded research program, participate in departmental activities, and serve the profession. The department offers opportunities to develop laboratories and sponsor research activities through collaboration across engineering. MSEN is a growing department with 22 full-time and 6 joint tenured or tenure-track faculty members, about 300 undergraduate students, and about 200 graduate students. It is part of the College of Engineering and interacts with faculty in other engineering programs on large-scale initiatives, with access to graduate students to assist with research activities.
