About The Position

The Marketing and Business Analytics Department at San José State University is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Business Analytics. The role involves research and teaching in areas such as AI in Business Analytics, Generative AI and Business Decision-Making, Optimization, Predictive Analytics, Stochastic Processes, Data Mining, and Data Visualization at both undergraduate and Master's levels. The department has strong ties to the Silicon Valley business community, with executives teaching and engaging students, and students working on projects with local companies. The department and the Lucas College and Graduate School of Business are committed to faculty and student success, fostering inclusive learning environments, and advancing equity. SJSU is a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and an Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institution (AANAPISI) with a diverse student population, many of whom are first-generation and Pell Grant recipients.

Requirements

  • A doctorate from an accredited university. A doctoral degree must be fully awarded by the date of appointment in order to start, but preferably by May 31, 2027.
  • Evidence of teaching excellence or potential for teaching excellence.
  • Demonstrated record of, or potential for, scholarly publications and the development of a strong scholarly record commensurate with rank and suitable for advancement.
  • Interest in engaging with Silicon Valley professionals and connecting our students – largely first generation, economically diverse, and multicultural – to the business community.
  • Evidence of awareness and sensitivity to the educational goals of a socially and economically diverse student population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching, and other comparable experience.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching Business Analytics courses, with an emphasis on AI – for example, AI in Business Analytics, Generative AI and Business Decision-Making – along with traditional Business Analytics topics such as Optimization, Predictive Analytics, Stochastic Processes, Data Mining, and Data Visualization.
  • Teaching assignments are at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in traditional and accelerated formats.
  • Engaging in scholarly activities as evidenced by developing and maintaining an active research agenda in peer reviewed high-quality journals and by presenting at academic and professional conferences.
  • Participate in shared governance, usually in department, college, and university committees and other service assignments.
  • Organize all classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Demonstrate awareness and experience in understanding the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation – through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement.
