About The Position

The Department of Art & Design at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track, Assistant Professor of Art in Sculpture starting Fall 2027. We seek a motivated, collaborative artist-educator with expertise in three-dimensional art who is passionate about teaching within a student-centered university environment. Candidates should demonstrate an active studio practice, a strong exhibition record, college-level teaching experience, and a commitment to fostering a supportive academic community. As a faculty member in Sculpture, you will teach undergraduate and graduate courses while contributing to the academic and creative growth of students. Responsibilities include: Teaching 3D Foundations and undergraduate and graduate Sculpture courses. Participating in departmental meetings and BFA/MFA reviews. Managing sculpture facilities, equipment, and studio operations. Purchasing supplies and maintaining resources necessary for instruction. Implementing training programs and safety protocols. Contributing to the recruitment, retention, and success of undergraduate BFA students and graduate students in the MFA program. Providing mentorship and guidance to graduate assistants and collaborating with adjunct faculty teaching in the sculpture area. Contributing to a collaborative, cross-disciplinary departmental environment. The teaching load consists of a 2/2/2/3 load, typically teaching two studio art courses each long semester and three studio art courses during one semester in every four-semester cycle. Requirements

  • Master of Fine Arts degree with demonstrated expertise in Sculpture/3D art.
  • Evidence of active professional artistic practice and exhibition record.
  • Teaching experience at the college or university level.
  • Ability to teach 3D Foundations and advanced undergraduate and graduate Sculpture courses.
  • Knowledge of current safety and health standards in sculpture studios.
  • Experience working collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff in a team-oriented environment.
  • Commitment to effectively serve and promote a varied student population.

Nice To Haves

  • Teaching expertise in areas such as figurative sculpture, woodworking, fabrication, metal casting, mold-making, soft sculpture, or installation.
  • Experience integrating digital fabrication technologies such as 3D scanning and printing into traditional 3D media.
  • Ability to mentor, teach, and provide leadership to graduate students across disciplines.
  • Knowledge of historical, theoretical, and contemporary developments in Sculpture.
  • Leadership experience in studio-based educational settings.
