About The Position

The Department of Art: Studio, History, and Education in the College of Fine Arts at the University of New Mexico seeks a sculptor to join the Sculpture & Expanded Practice area. The successful candidate will contribute to the continued development and leadership of the area through innovative approaches to sculpture and pedagogy. The ideal candidate will also contribute to our shared commitment to engaging the rich and varied cultures and communities of New Mexico, while demonstrating a local and global contemporary approach to sculptural practice and pedagogy. Teaching will primarily include undergraduate and graduate studio courses within the Sculpture & Expanded Practice area. The candidate will also have the opportunity to develop and teach special topics courses that reflect their area of expertise and contemporary practice. The teaching load is two courses per semester (2/2). In addition to teaching, the faculty member will be expected to maintain an active research and creative practice, serve on undergraduate and graduate thesis committees, participate in curriculum development within the Sculpture & Expanded Practice area, and contribute service to the Department, College, and University. The University of New Mexico (UNM) is a Research 1 institution that supports faculty research and creative activity. New Mexico is a majority-minority state, and the University of New Mexico is located in Albuquerque, a city of approximately 600,000 on the Rio Grande at an elevation of 5,200 feet. Requirements

MFA or equivalent degree in Studio Art or a related field by the time of appointment.
Two years of cumulative post-graduate, college-level or professional-level teaching experience as an instructor of record.

Demonstrated expertise and proficiency in creating art and supporting students in two or more of the following areas: fiber sculpture, wood, metal, installation art, moldmaking and casting, social sculpture, and digital, to analog, and/or expanded practices.
Demonstrated interest in contributing to a contemporary, interdisciplinary studio art environment that emphasizes close faculty-student mentoring.
Demonstrated ability to provide effective teaching, mentorship, and guidance to undergraduate and graduate students across disciplines.
Active record of exhibitions and/or publications appropriate to the candidate’s career stage.
Knowledge of current health and safety standards and practices relevant to studio art.
Demonstrated excellence in communication and interest in collaboration.

Responsibilities
