About The Position

The School of Business at Eastern Illinois University is seeking a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Accounting starting Fall 2027. The role emphasizes excellence in teaching, research, and service. The ideal candidate will have research and teaching interests in all accounting areas and be willing to teach across various accounting disciplines, adapting to departmental needs. Experience with AI in teaching and student engagement is particularly sought. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in face-to-face, online, and hybrid formats, maintaining a sustainable research program with scholarly output in peer-reviewed journals (including applied and pedagogical research), and contributing to the School of Business and University through service. A passion for teaching, student mentoring, and career development is highly valued.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. or DBA in Accounting from an AACSB-accredited accounting doctoral program with a strong record of research training in accounting.
  • ABD candidates close to completion will be considered.
  • Evidence of strong instructional effectiveness.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • An established or emerging record of publication in peer-reviewed journals.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability and willingness to teach across accounting areas (e.g., financial accounting, accounting information systems, managerial accounting, auditing, and taxation).
  • Experience using AI to supplement teaching and engage students.
  • Applied and pedagogical research experience.
  • Professional certifications such as CPA, CMA, or other relevant designations.
  • Business experience.
  • Experience teaching online.
  • Strong grounding in U.S. GAAP.
  • Demonstrated fluency with the FASB Accounting Standards Codification.
  • Familiarity with related U.S. regulatory and reporting standards.
