About The Position

The Department of Accounting & Finance in the Lucas College of Business at San José State University is seeking an Assistant Professor of Accounting to begin in August 2027. The role involves teaching a range of accounting courses, including financial, managerial, analytics, or internal audit, within undergraduate, MS Accounting Analytics, and MBA programs. The position also requires engaging in scholarly research for highly respected accounting journals and contributing to service at the department, college, or university levels. The department focuses on undergraduate finance, accounting, and tax disciplines with a technological emphasis and encourages interdisciplinary research. It houses Master of Science degrees in Accounting Analytics and Financial Analytics, and includes centers for excellence in Banking and Financial Services, Accounting Advancement, and High Technology Tax. Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Accounting by start of appointment
  • Scholarly Academic qualification under AACSB standards
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a socially and economically diverse student population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching, and other comparable experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional experience in corporate accounting or assurance
  • Professional designations such as Certified Public Accountant
  • Excellent teaching experience at the university level

Responsibilities

  • Teach broadly in accounting coursework, which may include financial, managerial, analytics, or internal audit courses in our undergraduate, MS Accounting Analytics, or MBA programs.
  • Engage in scholarly activities conducting research, developing grants, presenting professional papers, and publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Participate in shared governance, usually in department, college, and university committees and other service assignments.
  • Organize all classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Demonstrate awareness and experience in understanding the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation – through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement.
