About The Position

James Madison University’s School of Accounting (SOA) invites applications for an experienced tenure-track Assistant Professor position starting Fall 2027. Advanced assistant professors are also encouraged to apply. We invite qualified applicants to teach and conduct research in any area of accounting with a preference for teaching financial/governmental or accounting information systems (AIS)/data analytics/technology. The SOA offers the BBA and MSA degrees and first received separate AACSB accounting accreditation in 1985. The SOA’s faculty members work together in a highly collegial environment and have published in high-quality journals. The SOA has strong ties to the profession and is viewed as a prime recruiting school by employers.

Requirements

  • A terminal degree in accounting from an AACSB-accredited institution. (ABDs will not be considered.)
  • A minimum of two years teaching experience in accounting.
  • Evidence of, or the potential for, publishing a continuing stream of quality scholarly research.
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional certification (CPA, CMA, or related accounting certificates).
  • Professional accounting experience.
  • Experience teaching financial/governmental or AIS/data analytics/technology.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching undergraduate and/or graduate accounting courses
  • Conducting research leading to quality peer-reviewed publications
  • Providing service to students, the department, the profession, and the university in accordance with the College of Business Guidelines for Faculty Qualifications.
