Assistant Professor, School of Accounting
About The Position
James Madison University’s School of Accounting (SOA) invites applications for an experienced tenure-track Assistant Professor position starting Fall 2027. Advanced assistant professors are also encouraged to apply. We invite qualified applicants to teach and conduct research in any area of accounting with a preference for teaching financial/governmental or accounting information systems (AIS)/data analytics/technology. The SOA offers the BBA and MSA degrees and first received separate AACSB accounting accreditation in 1985. The SOA’s faculty members work together in a highly collegial environment and have published in high-quality journals. The SOA has strong ties to the profession and is viewed as a prime recruiting school by employers.
Requirements
- A terminal degree in accounting from an AACSB-accredited institution. (ABDs will not be considered.)
- A minimum of two years teaching experience in accounting.
- Evidence of, or the potential for, publishing a continuing stream of quality scholarly research.
- Evidence of excellence in teaching.
Nice To Haves
- Professional certification (CPA, CMA, or related accounting certificates).
- Professional accounting experience.
- Experience teaching financial/governmental or AIS/data analytics/technology.
Responsibilities
- Teaching undergraduate and/or graduate accounting courses
- Conducting research leading to quality peer-reviewed publications
- Providing service to students, the department, the profession, and the university in accordance with the College of Business Guidelines for Faculty Qualifications.
