About The Position

The Department of Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of Michigan is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor specializing in modern Chinese culture. The position begins August 25, 2027, with a university year appointment. The role involves teaching a variety of courses in modern Chinese culture, from introductory undergraduate lectures to graduate seminars. The successful candidate will also supervise doctoral dissertations and contribute to departmental programs and broader university area studies initiatives. Interdisciplinary research and teaching interests, particularly in global and comparative contexts of modern Chinese culture from the late 19th to the 21st century, are highly encouraged.
