About The Position

The Marketing and Business Analytics Department at San José State University is seeking a tenure-track faculty member for an Assistant Professor position in Marketing. The ideal candidate will be interested in teaching AI-based Marketing courses such as Marketing Automation, Digital Marketing with AI, AI-Driven Customer Insights, and AI in Marketing Analytics, as well as traditional Marketing courses like Marketing Management, Marketing Analytics, New Product Development, and International Marketing. Research related to AI-based Marketing is highly desirable. Teaching responsibilities will span both undergraduate and Master's levels. The department has strong connections with the Silicon Valley business community, with executives often engaging with students and student teams undertaking projects with local companies. The department values both quality teaching and research, employing analytical, behavioral, strategic, and applied methodologies. San José State University, located in the heart of Silicon Valley, is the largest provider of business graduates to the region and emphasizes a multicultural, global perspective combined with technological innovation. Requirements

  • A doctorate from an accredited university.
  • A doctoral degree must be fully awarded by the date of appointment in order to start, but preferably by May 31, 2027.
  • Evidence of teaching excellence or potential for teaching excellence.
  • Demonstrated record of, or potential for, scholarly publications and the development of a strong scholarly record commensurate with rank and suitable for advancement.
  • Interest in engaging with Silicon Valley professionals and connecting our students – largely first generation, economically diverse, and multicultural – to the business community.
  • Evidence of awareness and sensitivity to the educational goals of a socially and economically diverse student population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching, and other comparable experience.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching Marketing courses with an emphasis on AI and Automation – for example, AI-Based Marketing, Marketing Automation, Digital Marketing with AI, AI-Driven Customer Insights, AI in Marketing Analytics, and AI applications in Marketing.
  • Teaching assignments are at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in traditional and accelerated formats.
  • Engaging in scholarly activities as evidenced by developing and maintaining an active research agenda in peer reviewed high-quality journals and by presenting at academic and professional conferences.
  • Participating in shared governance, usually in department, college, and university committees and other service assignments.
  • Organizing all classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Demonstrating awareness and experience in understanding the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation – through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement.
  • Complying with requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
  • Completing Clery Act training and immediately reporting Clery incidents to the institution if designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA).
  • Completing assigned and required CSU employee training (e.g., Data Security, FERPA, Preventing Discrimination and Harassment, Title IX, Health and Safety).
