About The Position

The Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering (IME) Department in the College of Engineering at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California (Cal Poly) is inviting applications for a full-time, academic year, tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank beginning approximately August 12, 2027. Cal Poly emphasizes a "Learn by Doing" philosophy and the teacher-scholar model, preparing graduates to make an impact from day one. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and master's level courses, support and expand curricular development in industrial engineering, and engage in high-quality scholarly work. The department is seeking candidates specializing in data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) with expected application areas including healthcare, manufacturing, transportation, and energy. The College of Engineering is committed to building a collaborative, multi-disciplinary faculty focused on inclusive excellence in student learning and applied research, encouraging applicants from all backgrounds. The IME Department offers both Industrial Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering programs, emphasizing laboratory-intensive, hands-on curricula. The department currently comprises 13 tenured and tenure-track faculty, 5 full-time lecturers, and approximately 10 part-time lecturers dedicated to teaching, research, and student mentorship.

Requirements

  • An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in industrial engineering, operations research, or a closely related field from an accredited institution or international equivalent is required for appointment. Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) will be considered but must provide proof that the doctorate was awarded prior to or by the start of the appointment.

  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to hands-on, student-centered learning and teaching.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaboratively work in multidisciplinary settings.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interests in undergraduate and graduate teaching.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language is required.
