About The Position

The Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering (IME) Department in the College of Engineering at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California (Cal Poly) is inviting applications for a full-time, academic year, tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank. This position begins approximately August 12, 2027. Cal Poly emphasizes a 'Learn by Doing' philosophy, preparing graduates for immediate impact. The role involves teaching undergraduate and master's level courses, supporting curricular development in industrial engineering, and engaging in high-quality scholarly work. The department seeks candidates specializing in data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) with potential applications in healthcare, manufacturing, transportation, and energy. The College of Engineering is committed to building a collaborative faculty focused on inclusive excellence in student learning and applied research, encouraging applications from diverse backgrounds. The IME Department houses both Industrial Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering programs, both emphasizing laboratory-intensive, hands-on curricula. The department has 13 tenured/tenure-track faculty, 5 full-time lecturers, and approximately 10 part-time lecturers.

Requirements

  • An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in industrial engineering, operations research, or a closely related field from an accredited institution or international equivalent (candidates nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) will be considered but must provide proof of award by the start date).

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interests in undergraduate and graduate teaching.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language.
