About The Position

The Department of Linguistics at the University of Washington invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Phonology, with an anticipated start date of September 2027. The successful candidate will join the faculty on a full-time basis for a nine-month academic appointment with a three-year renewable term. The monthly base salary range is $7,079–$10,600, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. The department seeks a scholar whose research complements and builds on its existing strengths and who is committed to excellence in research, teaching, and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community. The successful candidate will teach at undergraduate and graduate levels, conduct independent research, and supervise student research. All University of Washington faculty are expected to engage in teaching, research, and service. The department has 19 faculty members, 142 undergraduate majors, 25 PhD students, and 87 MS students, along with a sizable number of ASL and Linguistics minors.

Requirements

Ph.D. degree, or foreign equivalent, in Linguistics or a related field, in hand by the end of July 2027.
Commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community.
Research in phonology that complements and builds on the department’s existing strengths.
