About The Position

The Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations (EALC) at the University of Chicago invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in either middle period China (Six Dynasties to Yuan) or modern China (late Qing to present), with an expected start date of July 1, 2027, or as soon as possible thereafter. We are particularly interested in scholars working in literature, cultural studies, and/or intellectual history, and we welcome work that is interdisciplinary, transregional, and/or cross-temporal. The selected candidate will pursue their own research agenda, collaborate with faculty in EALC and other departments, and teach in both the undergraduate and graduate curricula.

Requirements

Active research agenda resulting in publication in leading venues in their field or the potential to develop such a publication record
Skills in analyzing primary source texts
Ability or potential to be an excellent teacher and mentor at the undergraduate and graduate levels
All requirements for receipt of a PhD in a field related to the search must be completed prior to the start of the appointment
