About The Position

The Biomedical Engineering Department at the University of Delaware invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in basic and preclinical musculoskeletal research. Research may address the physical and biological mechanisms of musculoskeletal structure and function, musculoskeletal disorders, and therapeutic interventions, spanning scales from organisms to molecules. The successful applicant will join the Delaware Center for Musculoskeletal Research (DCMR), an NIH-funded Center for Biomedical Research Excellence that recently received Phase II funding to support new faculty across collaborating departments and offers opportunities for joint appointments. The DCMR provides research infrastructure, mentoring, and funding opportunities. The department has research programs in musculoskeletal biomechanics, disease modeling, drug delivery, nanomedicine, neuro-engineering, and cell and tissue engineering. Faculty are expected to contribute to high-impact research and exceptional engineering education in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment, and to help foster a climate that attracts and affirms students from diverse backgrounds. The department’s research facilities include new laboratories on the STAR Campus and access to university-wide cores for preclinical models, animal imaging, histology, biomechanics, MRI, bio-imaging, sequencing, genotyping, bioinformatics, proteomics, and human-based studies. Clinical and translational collaboration opportunities are supported through partnerships with UD’s Physical Therapy Department, Nemours Children’s Health, Thomas Jefferson University, the University of Pennsylvania, and other organizations. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in engineering or a related field. For full consideration, applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, research statement (maximum four pages), teaching and mentoring statement (maximum two pages), leadership and service statement (maximum two pages), and contact information for at least three references.
