The Department of Bioengineering at the University of Washington College of Engineering invites applications for two full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor positions. The positions are anticipated to begin in September 2027 and are described as nine-month appointments with a renewable three-year term. The base salary range is $8,500–$13,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. Successful candidates will develop internationally recognized, extramurally funded research programs that advance fundamental bioengineering and create capabilities for studying human disease and developing next-generation medicines. Research may bridge engineering and biology across molecular, cellular, tissue, and organ scales, and may develop experimental, synthetic, materials-based, computationally enabled, or translational technologies. Areas of potential application include manipulating biological state and function, creating more faithful models of human physiology and disease, delivering therapeutic functions, and modifying biological environments to enable repair and regeneration. The department also welcomes research establishing broadly useful platforms rather than technologies limited to a single disease or application. The role includes innovative teaching and mentorship at undergraduate and graduate levels, participation in the department’s undergraduate, Master’s, and PhD programs, and development of courses and educational activities in the candidate’s areas of expertise. Candidates will contribute to the research, education, and service missions of the Department of Bioengineering, College of Engineering, School of Medicine, and University. They will build collaborations within Bioengineering and across the University of Washington and affiliated institutions, connecting foundational technology development with biomedical applications. The department values a broad range of experiences and perspectives and expects the successful candidate to contribute to an inclusive learning and research environment through teaching, mentorship, research, and service, and to support students and trainees from a wide range of backgrounds.
