About The Position

The Department of Advertising in the College of Journalism and Communications (CJC) at the University of Florida is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor specializing in AI and Advertising. This role begins in Fall 2027 and requires a Ph.D. in a relevant field by the appointment date. The ideal candidate will have a strong research focus on artificial intelligence's impact on advertising, including areas like AI-mediated persuasion, human-AI interaction, generative AI, algorithmic communication, and AI-driven social media insights. The position involves collaboration with UF’s Consortium on Trust in Media and Technology, contributing to UF's major initiative in artificial intelligence. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate advertising courses, potentially developing new courses in AI and Advertising, mentoring students, and participating in departmental and university service. Evaluation criteria include research quality and potential, teaching effectiveness, mentorship, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Requirements

  • Completed a Ph.D. in communication, mass communication, advertising, marketing, or a related field by the time of appointment.
  • Demonstrate a record of, or strong potential for, original scholarly research relevant to advertising and strategic communication.
  • Demonstrate a research program that substantially engages artificial intelligence or related emerging technologies.
  • Demonstrate potential to secure external research funding.
  • Demonstrate the ability to contribute effectively to undergraduate and/or graduate teaching.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate courses in the advertising curriculum.
  • Teach established graduate courses approved by CJC’s Graduate Division.
  • Potentially teach specialized course offerings such as AI and Advertising and AI-Driven Social Media Insight.
  • Develop new courses in their area of expertise.
  • Mentor doctoral and master’s students.
  • Participate in service to the department, college, university, and discipline.
