About The Position

The Department of Economics at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign's College of Liberal Arts & Sciences is seeking a full-time, tenure-track faculty member at the Assistant Professor level. The ideal candidate will have expertise in the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the economy, with research that develops or extensively uses novel AI tools. The position also involves teaching courses that may cover the intersection of AI and economics. The successful candidate will contribute to the College's mission of driving impact through curiosity, preparing students for lifelong inquiry, leadership, and service through innovative research, transformative teaching, and thoughtful mentoring. The department offers Ph.D., Master's (MSPE), and undergraduate degrees, with several STEM-designated programs. The university is a leading land-grant research institution committed to excellence in research and education.

Requirements

Ph.D. in Economics or an equivalent degree, or expecting to receive the Ph.D. before the starting date of employment.
Expertise in the impact of AI on the economy.
Research that develops or relies extensively on the use of novel AI tools.
Ability to teach courses that could include aspects of the intersection of AI and economics.
Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and experience to be effective teachers for a diverse student population.

Nice To Haves

Candidates whose Ph.D. may be delayed but will complete all the Ph.D. requirements within the first appointment year may be appointed at the rank of Instructor, with the appointment changed to Assistant Professor after the Ph.D. requirement is met.
