About The Position

The Department of Psychology at The Citadel invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Psychology. The specialization is open, with a preference for Experimental Psychology. The successful candidate will be expected to actively engage undergraduate students in their research program. The Citadel is a highly-ranked public institution located in Charleston, South Carolina, known for its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Psychology Department, with 11 full-time faculty, supports approximately 75 undergraduate majors and 100 graduate students across its School Psychology and Clinical Counseling programs. The Citadel offers a unique learning environment as a co-educational military college, complemented by a non-military Graduate College. The Citadel Foundation provides generous support for faculty research and professional travel. The campus is situated on the Ashley River, offering a vibrant living environment with access to cultural activities and nearby institutions for collaboration.

Requirements

• Doctorate in an experimental area of psychology or related discipline (ABD candidates will be considered).
• Demonstrated research potential.
• Willingness to maintain a productive research program that incorporates undergraduate students.
• Evidence of teaching experience and instructional effectiveness at the post-secondary level (preferred).

Nice To Haves

• Specialization in Experimental Psychology.
• Ability to teach core courses in the undergraduate program (Introduction to Psychological Science, Psychological Statistics, Research Design/Experimental Psychology).
• Ability to teach elective courses in areas such as Social Psychology, Sports Psychology, Health Psychology, Neuroscience, etc.
• Candidates that can speak to and add to the mission of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Responsibilities

• Teaching undergraduate courses based on the candidate’s specialization.
• Teaching Research Methods at the graduate level for Master’s students in School Psychology and Clinical Counseling programs.
• Teaching core undergraduate courses (Introduction to Psychological Science, Psychological Statistics, Research Design/Experimental Psychology) and elective courses in the candidate’s area of specialization.
• Maintaining an active and productive research program that incorporates undergraduate students.
• Supervising undergraduate student research.
• Engaging in service initiatives across the program, department, college, community, and/or professional levels.
• Contributing to program-related activities as needed.
• Serving as a positive role model for undergraduate and graduate students.
