About The Position

San Francisco State University, Department of Psychology offers an exciting opportunity for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Psychology beginning August 2027. We seek a colleague whose teaching and research interests include development, community, and/or families. We are especially interested in qualified candidates with a demonstrated commitment -- through their research, teaching, and service -- to the diversity and excellence of our academic department.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Psychology or related discipline (e.g., Community Psychology, Educational Psychology, Human Development). Terminal degree must be completed by the first day of employment.
• Record of working and communicating effectively with colleagues and students

Nice To Haves

• Record of teaching contributions in research methods, scientific writing, or basic psychological processes (as a graduate student, post-doc, or faculty member).
• Active record of scholarship related to the Developmental Psychology program in the Department of Psychology at SF State.
• Record of teaching, research, and/or service contributions that align with SF State’s commitment to social justice, inclusion, and equity.
• Experience teaching and working closely with students from historically under-represented communities.
• Evidence of incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching and research.

Responsibilities

• The position requires both undergraduate and graduate teaching. Undergraduate course topics will include our core courses in development (childhood, adolescence, lifespan), community, and/or families.
• Graduate teaching responsibilities are assigned based upon expertise and faculty interest. A broad set of graduate course topics are available across any of our graduate programs.
• The position requires mentoring and advising both undergraduate and graduate students; developing an active ongoing research program in one’s area of specialty, and ongoing committee and service assignments within the Department of Psychology.
