About The Position

The Department of Communication Disorders in the College of Health, Education, and Social Transformation invites applications for one 9-month, tenure-track position as assistant professor with an anticipated start date of either January 2027 or August 2027. The department offers undergraduate and graduate instruction for approximately 300 students. The successful candidate will join a collegial, supportive, and student-centered faculty and is expected to teach, perform research, and provide service to the department, college, and the university. Regular on-campus presence and in-person job duties are required.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in speech language pathology, communication sciences and disorders, or a closely-related field. (ABD will be considered with evidence of degree completion by the employment date.)
  • If the Ph.D. degree is in a related field, a minimum of 36 graduate credits must be in the area of speech-language pathology/communication disorders.
  • Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Be able to provide undergraduate and graduate instruction in communication disorders.
  • Show evidence of an active research program and publication record or potential to develop an active research program.
  • Be able to work with diverse faculty and students in a collaborative manner.

Nice To Haves

  • Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech Language Hearing Association.
  • Eligibility for New Mexico SLP Licensure.

Responsibilities

  • Provide undergraduate and graduate instruction in one or more of the following areas: Spanish/English bilingual speech-language pathology, pediatric language disorders, AAC, and/or research methods.
  • Develop/engage in an active research program leading to peer-reviewed publications and extramural funding.
  • Participate in shared faculty governance, strategic planning, curriculum review, student outcome assessment, and advisement.
