The Department of Communication at The University of Tampa seeks a full-time, tenure-track faculty member at the assistant professor level with a terminal degree in communication or a related field. The successful candidate will be expected to teach three 4-credit communication courses per semester during the 9-month academic year, including COM 323 Communication and Technology and production courses in emerging media such as COM 346 Writing for Interactive Media. This hybrid theory/production role may also contribute courses to the Master of Arts in Social and Emerging Media (MASEM) program and will provide technical expertise in interactive design and in virtual and extended reality through our UX Media Lab. Candidates who can enhance the critical, cultural, and creative diversity of the curriculum, including updating existing courses and proposing new ones, are encouraged to apply. The University of Tampa's Communication Department offers four majors: Communication and Media Studies (CMS); Advertising and Public Relations; Communication and Speech Studies; and Journalism. It also plays a significant role in delivering the Master of Arts in Social and Emerging Media and the Master of Arts in Professional Communication. The CMS curriculum focuses on critical perspectives on media, culture, and political economy, preparing students for creative production practice. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in undergraduate teaching, maintain an active record of peer-reviewed scholarship, participate in academic advising, and engage in service to the department, college, university, and broader community. Innovative pedagogies and varied research agendas and traditions of scholarship are welcomed.
