This position is a clinical faculty appointment in the Department of Hematopathology within the Division of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. The primary function is to assume diagnostic patient care responsibilities by serving as a diagnostic hematopathologist. The role requires a self-motivated, energetic, committed, and conscientious professional with strong communication skills. Responsibilities include interpreting medical records, patient data, and specimens, identifying specimen components, and integrating this information into diagnostic and biologically relevant information. The individual must be able to read staging reactions on slides and be familiar with immunocytochemistry, flow cytometry, histograms, and image analysis systems. A key aspect of the role is ensuring compliance with Quality Control standards and laboratory regulations from CAP, JCAHO, FDA, Medicare, and CLIA. Problem-solving related to job responsibilities, working with hazardous materials, and familiarity with tissue culture procedures, molecular biologic techniques, and sophisticated equipment are also essential. Manual dexterity for instrument use and the ability to move between laboratories are required. Administrative duties include ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, providing guidance and technical assistance to laboratory personnel, interviewing applicants, evaluating staff performance, and making recommendations for hiring, termination, promotion, and merit increases. Maintaining up-to-date knowledge in Hematopathology and Laboratory Medicine, and consulting on bone marrow and lymph node specimens are also part of the role. The position also involves commitment to clinical and applied aspects of hematopathology, collaboration with investigators, and designing, executing, and interpreting scientific data for publication. Educational responsibilities include presenting lectures and training fellows, post-doctoral fellows, medical students, technologists, and laboratory personnel.
