This position is a clinical faculty appointment in the Department of Hematopathology within the Division of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. The primary function is to assume diagnostic patient care responsibilities by serving as a diagnostic hematopathologist. The role requires a self-motivated, energetic, committed, and conscientious professional with strong communication skills. The individual will be responsible for visually reviewing and interpreting medical records, patient data, and specimens, including identifying specimen components through a microscope and integrating this information into diagnostic findings. Familiarity with staging reactions on slides, immunocytochemistry, flow cytometry, histograms, and image analysis systems is necessary. The role also involves comprehending printed results, correlating patient data with research findings, ensuring Quality Control standards are met, and complying with CAP, JCAHO, FDA, Medicare, and CLIA regulations. Problem-solving related to job responsibilities, working with hazardous materials, and familiarity with tissue culture procedures, molecular biologic techniques, and sophisticated equipment are also key. Manual dexterity for instrument use and the ability to move between laboratories are required. Administrative duties include ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, providing theoretical guidance and technical assistance to laboratory personnel, interviewing applicants, evaluating personnel performance, and making recommendations for hiring, termination, promotion, and merit. Maintaining up-to-date knowledge in Hematopathology and Laboratory Medicine, and consulting on bone marrow and lymph node specimens are essential. In research and development, commitment to clinical and applied aspects of hematopathology, collaboration with investigators, and the ability to design, execute, interpret, and integrate scientific data for publication are expected. Educational responsibilities include presenting lectures and training fellows, post-doctoral fellows, medical students, technologists, medical technology students, and laboratory personnel.
