That's WEIS! The Assistant Produce Manager is responsible for the functions below, in addition to other duties as assigned. This role promotes excellent customer relations by instilling positive customer focused behavior with associates, focusing on continuous improvement in all areas of the department, and making changes to ensure progress. The Assistant Produce Manager determines what the customer is looking for in terms of size and appearance, creates the finished product in a timely fashion, and ensures fresh quality merchandise by using proper product handling techniques. They also help with controlling damages and minimizing product losses according to company procedures and standards. The Assistant Produce Manager assists the Produce Manager in day-to-day functions of Produce operations such as merchandising, ad execution, associate engagement and customer service, and performs duties of the Produce Manager in their absence. They develop and implement merchandising plans that meet financial goals, are knowledgeable on weekly ads and specials to ensure correct pricing and production amounts, and continuously improve knowledge of produced merchandise. This role adheres to and enforces company policy of production logs, oversees department inventories by tracking weekly sales reports, product orders and supplies to ensure successful period-end physical inventory, and assists with scheduling all department associates, participates in training, rewards and recognizes performance and delegates work assignments to effectively utilize talents and abilities while maximizing profits for the department. They utilize the Learning Management System (LMS) for current and new associates, manage inventory levels and review orders to ensure product quantities meet customer demand, and maintain backroom organization and product storage within company guidelines. The Assistant Produce Manager oversees shelf replenishment efforts to ensure product availability for customers, with prioritization for weekly specials, seasonally and locally relevant items, and other high-velocity items. They utilize the cutting list for accuracy and variety of product, check and verify all department deliveries and invoices to ensure accurate billing, and may help unload merchandise and transport to sales floor or storage area. This role enforces and follows department practices regarding receiving, dating and restocking to ensure product rotation, monitors product quality and freshness, and breaks down deliveries. They control department expenses by improving operations and efficiencies, controlling labor costs and reducing losses due to damages, spoiled product and shrink. The Assistant Produce Manager ensures associates correctly follow company recipes for prepared products, maintains freshness by properly removing and recording out of code products, and completes required product logs. They keep the produce department well stocked and appealing to meet customer demands, handle special requests such as filling orders for fruit baskets, and resolve customer concerns promptly in a polite and professional manner. This role unpacks cartons and crates of merchandise, cleans and trims produce, stocks area with new merchandise, and ensures merchandise is in saleable condition which requires rotating stock to ensure freshness. They ensure that product has been properly priced with correct signage, maintain the salad bar and cut fruit/vegetable as needed, and assist in building attractive displays. The Assistant Produce Manager accurately completes necessary product logs, handles spoiled and damaged product, new items and discontinued items accordingly to company policy, and maintains backroom and receiving area security and organization by promoting procedures. They are responsible for general sanitation in the department, follow cleaning schedules and department guidelines to ensure that work areas, equipment, counters, display cases, etc. are well maintained, clean and meet all health and OSHA requirements, and dispose of trash properly. This role may also assist with baling cardboard or other related duties if properly trained, ensures smooth function of department and store by cooperating with co-workers and superiors, is responsible to continuously improve job performance, and is responsible for utilization of all company provided Personal Protected Equipment (PPE). They may also be called upon to assist in other departments.
