About The Position

The Assistant Produce Manager helps customers make healthy food choices by providing excellent customer service while managing and leading a busy store team. The role assists the Produce Manager with department management and merchandising to maximize productivity and profit, and is responsible for ordering, inventory controls, product quality, and team supervision.

The position coordinates merchandising and sales through planning, direction, goal setting, communication, and teamwork. It helps maintain department freshness standards through proper receiving, processing, packaging, pricing, signage, display, and rotation. The Assistant Produce Manager also assists with hiring, teaching, training, and developing team members; unloads and sorts deliveries; operates and maintains produce equipment; and ensures compliance with company health, safety, and sanitation guidelines.

The work is in a fast-paced grocery environment and includes customer interaction, general housekeeping, cleaning and sanitizing the department, and physical tasks such as standing, walking, bending, climbing, lifting and maneuvering heavy objects, and using a pallet jack. The schedule may vary and can include nights, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

• Be at least 18 years of age.
• Have basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
• Be dependable and reliable, and able to work a flexible, changing schedule that includes nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Show outgoing and friendly behavior, maintain a positive attitude, and interact effectively with customers.
• Have good communication skills and the ability to take direction and participate in a team environment.
• Follow safety, health, and Weights and Measures regulations, including COOL, and obtain and maintain a Food Handlers permit.
• Be able to stand, walk, bend, and climb throughout the workday.
• Be able to lift, stack, and maneuver objects weighing up to 50 pounds, from 4 to 72 inches, for distances up to 3 feet, for between 10 and 50 hours without mechanical assistance.
• Be able to use a pallet jack to move pallets up to 20 feet, requiring force of up to 85 pounds, for up to 5 hours.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Produce Manager in managing and merchandising the department for maximum productivity and profit.
• Manage ordering and inventory controls, product quality, and supervision of the Produce team.
• Coordinate merchandising and sales through ongoing planning, direction, goal setting, communication, and teamwork.
• Maintain department freshness standards by following proper receiving, processing, packaging, pricing, signage, displaying, and rotation procedures.
• Assist in leading the team to deliver high-quality products, excellent service, and a positive customer experience.
• Assist with hiring, teaching, training, and developing the Produce team.
• Unload and sort store deliveries, and operate and maintain produce equipment.
• Ensure company health, safety, and sanitation guidelines and regulations are followed by the team.
• Perform general housekeeping and clean and sanitize the department work area.
• Provide excellent customer service and help customers make healthy food choices.
