The Assistant Produce Manager is responsible for promoting excellent customer relations by instilling positive customer-focused behavior with associates. This role involves greeting customers, answering questions, resolving issues promptly, and taking customer orders. The Assistant Produce Manager focuses on continuous improvement within the department, ensuring fresh quality merchandise through proper handling techniques, and minimizing product losses. They assist the Produce Manager in daily operations, including merchandising, ad execution, associate engagement, and customer service. This position also involves performing the duties of the Produce Manager in their absence, developing merchandising plans, and ensuring correct pricing and production amounts based on weekly ads and specials. The role requires continuous improvement of knowledge regarding produced merchandise and adherence to production log policies. The Assistant Produce Manager oversees department inventories, tracks sales reports, product orders, and supplies, and assists with scheduling, training, rewarding, and recognizing associates. They manage inventory levels, review orders to meet customer demand, maintain backroom organization, and oversee shelf replenishment. This role involves checking and verifying deliveries and invoices, breaking down deliveries, and controlling department expenses by improving operations, efficiencies, labor costs, and reducing losses. They ensure associates follow company recipes, maintain freshness by removing out-of-code products, and keep the produce department well-stocked and appealing. Responsibilities include unpacking merchandise, cleaning and trimming produce, stocking, ensuring merchandise is saleable, rotating stock, and pricing products correctly. The Assistant Produce Manager maintains the salad bar and cut fruit/vegetable sections, assists in building displays, and accurately completes product logs. They handle spoiled, damaged, new, and discontinued items according to company policy, and maintain backroom and receiving area security and organization. General sanitation in the department is a key responsibility, including following cleaning schedules and department guidelines to ensure work areas, equipment, counters, and display cases are well-maintained, clean, and meet health and OSHA requirements. Proper trash disposal and potential assistance with baling cardboard are also included. Cooperation with co-workers and superiors is essential for the smooth function of the department and store. Continuous improvement of job performance and utilization of all company-provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) are required. The Assistant Produce Manager may also be called upon to assist in other departments.
