About The Position

The Assistant Produce Manager helps oversee daily Produce Department operations, with emphasis on freshness, quality, merchandising, inventory control, sales, and customer service. This is a fast-paced, hands-on leadership role focused on maintaining attractive, market-fresh displays, supporting and developing associates, and contributing to department performance. The assistant assumes responsibility for department operations when the Produce Manager is absent.

The role requires flexible availability, including weekends and holidays, and involves lifting, moving, and stacking product and working in coolers and refrigerated environments. Travel is not required.

• Knowledge of produce handling, rotation, and freshness standards.
• Knowledge of retail merchandising and promotional execution.
• Knowledge of store systems and inventory tools.
• Ability to review sales, shrink, and inventory data to drive results.
• Ability to train and develop associates.
• Ability to lift, move, and stack product and work in coolers and refrigerated environments.
• Flexible availability, including weekends and holidays.
• Reliable attendance and compliance with company policies, food safety standards, and the Code of Business Conduct.

Responsibilities

• Help oversee daily Produce Department operations, focusing on freshness, quality, and customer service.
• Deliver knowledgeable, friendly service and ensure associates demonstrate strong product knowledge.
• Assist with executing corporate merchandising programs, planograms, seasonal sets, and promotional displays.
• Maintain full, fresh, clean, and visually appealing produce displays.
• Assist with product rotation, removal of damaged or unsellable items, and freshness standards.
• Assist with ordering, receiving, inspecting, and storing product according to food safety and rotation guidelines.
• Help manage shrink through inventory controls, root-cause identification, and waste-reduction strategies.
• Assist with building and managing labor schedules aligned with business needs.
• Assist with training, coaching, and developing produce associates while maintaining a positive team environment.
• Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, safety, and company operational standards.
• Perform Produce Department duties as needed and assume responsibility for department operations in the Produce Manager’s absence.
