The Assistant Produce Manager is responsible for promoting excellent customer relations by instilling positive customer-focused behavior with associates. This includes smiling and greeting customers, answering questions, and resolving customer issues promptly and professionally. The role focuses on continuous improvement in all areas of the department, making changes to ensure progress, and taking customer orders with a positive attitude. Key responsibilities include ensuring fresh quality merchandise through proper handling techniques, controlling damages and minimizing product losses, and assisting the Produce Manager in daily operations such as merchandising, ad execution, associate engagement, and customer service. The Assistant Produce Manager will also perform duties of the Produce Manager in their absence, develop and implement merchandising plans to meet financial goals, and ensure correct pricing and production amounts based on weekly ads and specials. This role requires continuous improvement of knowledge regarding produced merchandise and adherence to production log policies. The Assistant Produce Manager will oversee department inventories, track sales reports, product orders, and supplies, and assist with scheduling, training, rewarding, and delegating tasks to associates. They will manage inventory levels, review orders to meet customer demand, maintain backroom organization, and oversee shelf replenishment. The role involves checking deliveries and invoices, potentially unloading merchandise, and enforcing department practices for receiving, dating, and restocking to ensure product rotation. Monitoring product quality and freshness, breaking down deliveries, and controlling department expenses are also crucial. The Assistant Produce Manager ensures associates follow company recipes for prepared products, maintains freshness by removing out-of-code products, and keeps the produce department well-stocked and appealing. This includes unpacking merchandise, cleaning and trimming produce, stocking new merchandise, ensuring saleable condition through stock rotation, and proper pricing with correct signage. Maintaining the salad bar and cut fruit/vegetable sections, assisting in building attractive displays, and accurately completing product logs are also part of the role. Handling spoiled, damaged, new, and discontinued items according to company policy, maintaining backroom and receiving area security, and ensuring general sanitation in the department according to cleaning schedules and health/OSHA requirements are essential. The role may involve assisting in other departments and requires cooperation with co-workers and superiors for the smooth function of the department and store. Continuous improvement of job performance and utilization of all company-provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) are expected.
